At the state park, very close to the facilities at Blue Bank Resort, there is a beautiful boardwalk that winds through the cypress knees and water out to the open water of the lake. You can see many different types of water vegetation from water lilies to young cypress shoots. Also, you will catch a glimpse of a wood duck or mallard along the walk.
As you go further on the walk past a very tightly built beaver dam, you will come to the open water. At the end of this beautiful walk there is a gazebo. Many fishermen try their luck here as the eagles, ducks and beavers catch their own tasty treats from the waters surrounding the boardwalk.
Recently a pair of bald eagles have built a nest near the boardwalk and gazebo. According to the museum staff and park rangers, this is the first time any eagles have built their nest so close to the boardwalk. The museum houses three of the majestic birds on the grounds for visitors to see. The museum is full of interesting eagle facts and facts about the earthquake lake. There are lots of great interactive exhibits like a fully working seismograph and a earthquake room.
We look forward to see you.
